CAM/CAM design

The production of custom-made inserts for suitcases and packaging, shadow boards and precise details made of plastics and metals requires the use of highly advanced technology in the field of design and modeling using computer software. At Protective Foam Solutions, we use CAD / CAM design, thanks to which we can provide you with perfectly designed and manufactured details.

CAD DESIGN

CAD design is in other words Computer Aided Design. Designing in CAD involves creating a mock-up and then a detailed 3D model of the product to be produced. The software used to create projects in CAD allows you to perform very detailed and advanced mathematical calculations that take into account not only the dimensions of the model, but also loads and strength of materials.

3D CAD DESIGN – CREATING ADVANCED MODELS

3D modeling allows you to create extremely complex solids. Advanced CAD design software allows you to accommodate curves and other shape irregularities. Modeling in CAD also enables the development of connections between subsequent components of the designed product. CAD engineers can spot errors and then correct them.

CAD DESIGN – CREATING 2D DOCUMENTATION

In addition to 3D modeling, it is also possible to create 2D documentation, i.e. to present all the parts that are to make up the final product. The documentation may concern all the component parts of the product as well as the assembly methods (includes technical drawings, diagrams, etc.).

CAM DESIGN

Designing CAM (or Computer Aided Manufacturing) is the next stage of production based on CAD / CAM systems. It is nothing more than computer support for the production of a product based on a previously developed model. What is it about? Well, at this stage of production, the design and production processes are integrated – in other words, CNC machine tools, e.g. lathes or milling machines, are programmed in such a way that they are able to reproduce a 3D model on a physical part with perfect precision.

WHAT IS THE MACHINE PROGRAMMING?

The CAM programmer uses the created 3D model to precisely program the movements that the numerically controlled machine will perform. The extremely precise range of movements of the CNC machines enables 100% mapping of the 3D model. At this stage, simulations are also performed to detect possible errors or collisions that need to be corrected.

PRODUCTION STAGE

CAD / CAM design guarantees the perfect repeatability of movements by the CNC machine tool. Therefore, it is a method that favors mass production. Using Protective Foam Solutions, you can order multiple copies of shadow boards, as well as suitcase and packaging inserts, with the confidence that you will receive details of exactly the same shape and dimensions.
